About Lobolo Camp

On the shores of Lake Turkana, Lobolo Camp is the ideal place from which to explore the desert area and the stunning lake that slices across it. Lobolo, meaning place of abundant water, is apt and fitting for this camp that overlooks the world’s largest permanent desert lake. Jade Sea Journeys, which operates out of Lobolo Camp, offers trips by land and lake to archaeological and geological sites, as well as organising fishing and filming trips around the area.

The 8 en-suite tents are lit with solar lamps, and have raised beds with views of the lake and balconies overlooking the lake. The open-air kitchen serves fresh and simple dishes, including catch of the day from the lake, which can be eaten in the open-sided dining tent surrounded by doum palms and birdlife.

Activities include boat trips across Lake Turkana to Sibiloi National Park and Koobi Fora, known as the Cradle of Mankind because of their archaeological sites. Activities also include boat trips to Central Island, South Island, fishing trips, and trips around the lake. Also available are cultural visits to local villages, bird watching, nature walks and watching the local Turkana people’s traditional dancing.
