About Saruni Rhino Camp

The first community owned rhino sanctuary in Africa opened in 2016. In an area which for over 40 years has seen a continuous fall in the numbers of black rhinos, a group of black rhinos has been re-introduced. Saruni Rhino Camp offers a safari adventure: tracking black rhino on foot with an expert Saruni guide and a highly trained Sera Community Conservancy ranger.

Located in Sera Community Conservancy, Saruni Rhino Camp has 3 en-suite luxury cottages. Two cottages are doubles, while one is designed for a family with shared lounge and large stone veranda. The cottages have thatched roofs, hand crafted safari furniture, locally woven rugs and views of the dry river bed lined with doum palms. The lodge serves a three-course set menu, inspired by Italian cuisine and using fresh local ingredients and special imported luxuries. Dietary preferences and allergies can be catered for.

As well as visits to the rhino sanctuary, activities include game drives to see the Samburu Five, and other rare species of the region, and visits to the Singing Wells. The camp is keenly eco-friendly and has minimum impact on the environment, employs locals, and works with the Northern Rangelands Trust to support local conservation projects.
