About The Sands At Chale Island

Chale Island, about 50km south of Mombasa, is a stunning island fringed by white sand beaches and a coral reef. At its centre is a tidal salt water lake surrounded by mangroves. The Sands at Chale Island is a contemporary mix of Swahili structures, Italian stucco, Lamu furniture and African art. There are 16 tower rooms, in 2 towers. Each room is semi-circular, with Swahili day beds on sea facing verandas. There are 2 penthouse suites, with en-suite double room, sitting room, veranda and rooftop Jacuzzi. All rooms are equipped with aircon, satellite TV, DVD, telephone, internet, safe, minibar and hairdryer. There are 9 standard bandas, 14 superior bandas and 6 Chale bandas with Jacuzzis. There are also 2 over-water bandas on the northwest of the island, raised on stilts over the sea. There is 1 luxury suite on the rocks, joined to the island by a stone bridge, ideal for honeymooners.

The main restaurant serves Italian cuisine and seafood. The a la carte restaurant is located on the inland lake. There is also a well equipped water sports centre, a PADI scuba diving centre, a spa and 2 boutiques. Boat trips and shopping trips to Diani are available. Safaris and excursions to destinations in Kenya can be arranged.
