Perched high on an escarpment, Lion’s Bluff appears suspended over Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary with views on all sides. Lions Bluff was extensively refurbished in 2021, and added Leopards Lair and Cheetah Camp.
Lions Bluff has 12 en-suite glass-fronted cottages, built of sustainable timber, canvas and thatch, with handmade 4-poster bed and balcony with panoramic view. The restaurant and bar have 360-degree views; fresh fruit and vegetables are supplied by local farmers, many of whom are shareholders in the sanctuary. The infinity pool overlooks the sanctuary.
Leopards Lair has 4 en-suite bandas, with kitchenettes on their verandas, and a restaurant with sweeping views. Cheetah Camp has 4 en-suite safari tents, and its own bar, mess area and chef. Adjacent to Cheetah Camp, Cheetah Campsite has bathrooms and BBQs.
Activities include day and night game drives, battlefield tours of World War I sites, ornithological walks, nature trail, sundowners and bush breakfasts. Guests can climb Mt Kasigau and the Taita Hills, or visit Lake Chala and Lake Jipe. The 48,000-acre Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary is made up of 3 group ranches, Lualenyi, Mramba and Oza, which have united to preserve this vital wildlife corridor; every visitor directly benefits the community and ensures the preservation of the sanctuary.
