Named after the hippos that wallow in front of the resort, Kiboko Bay Resort is a tented camp on Lake Victoria. Manicured lawns, dotted with bougainvillea and palms and humming with birdsong, slope gently to the water’s edge.
The 9 tents, raised on wooden platforms and shaded by thatched roofs, are set around the garden. All are en-suite, with solid tiled bathrooms, and adorned with wooden and leather furniture and Maasai artwork. The tents have verandas, with shade netting and canvas safari chairs, overlooking the lake or the garden.
There is also a permanent suite on the lakefront. The suite has aircon throughout, and is made up of a double bedroom, a large bathroom with bath, shower and dressing table, a sitting room with attractive wicker furniture and a fully equipped open plan kitchenette.
The restaurant serves international cuisine, including fresh lake fish. Guests can also eat on the shady terrace or beside the lakefront swimming pool. There is a fully stocked bar and a peaceful library.
The resort has 3 speedboats seating between 6 and 15 pax. There is also a moored barge, ideal for functions and parties. Activities include bird watching, fishing trips, boat trips and cruises to the islands.
