About Tea Hotel

Tea was first cultivated in the highlands around Kericho in the 1920s. Today more than 110,000 hectares are devoted to tea, producing 215 million kilos of tea per year and bringing in 17-20% of Kenya’s export revenue. The Tea Hotel started life as the guesthouse for Brooke Bond, in 1952. In the 1970s it was sold to the local community who have run it since as the Tea Hotel.

This charming hotel is made up of standard rooms in a separate wing, superior rooms and suites in the main house and cottages in the garden. All rooms are en-suite, spacious and are decorated in the English country house style, with flowery wallpaper and chintz curtains. The dining room serves a selection of international dishes. The main house also holds a large sitting room with comfortable sofas and log fires, a well stocked bar with adjoining private rooms and a terrace overlooking the grounds. The 4 conference halls seat between 25 and 200 pax. Weddings and functions can be arranged.

The luxuriant gardens attract a myriad of birds, including the joyful greenbul, the cape wagtail, the black coucal and the barn owl. The tea tour, from picking to factory, should be booked in advance.
