Yoga Events and Happenings | Back to the Source: Uganda

This retreat is organised by Another Way, a social enterprise aimed at helping women and girls around the world to realise their worth and reach their full potential through empowerment, education and wellness. In a largely patriarchal society, we want to redress the balance of the feminine – because we believe that by empowering women, we impact not only the individual but also the household, village and wider community as a whole. By offering powerful tools, practices, opportunities and support, we aim to help women realise their potential and step into their collective power. We do this all from a place of love, creating a bond of sisterhood and a safe space for women to awaken to, embrace and realise their worth! This nine-day retreat in Uganda gives the opportunity to fully experience the healing power of a holistic yoga and wellness retreat, as well as to connect with our sister Seva community development projects.

We are delighted to announce that our 2022 retreat will be in partnership with the Twekembe Development Association (TDA) based in Kampala, Uganda.

We promise you this retreat will be a unique, powerful, intensely beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience! Come back to your Source, retreating into the magical Pearl of Africa, for a journey through the Five Elements - Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit. Practicing yoga on and off the mat, in a feminine way that encourages self-love, connection and empowerment. Empowering through movement, voice, sharing circles, rituals and sisterhood. Coming back to Mother Nature to explore our primal essence as women, coming back to our African roots as human beings, coming back in circles to gather as sisters, and coming back to yourself in body, mind and soul.

This retreat includes eight nights’ accommodation full board - with the first night spent in Kampala to connect with our community development partners, TDA, followed by seven nights in Jinja staying at a stunning eco-lodge on the banks of the River Nile, close to Lake Victoria.

On the first day, we will have a morning yoga session and traditional lunch together with the women of TDA to welcome you to Uganda! After transferring to Jinja (transfer included), we will share daily Elemental Yoga and meditation practices, women’s empowerment workshops, nature rituals, dancing, singing and celebration of the Feminine. While in Jinja, you will also have time to explore the amazing Ugandan landscape, including a fabulous excursion to the Source of the Nile.

After the retreat, there’s the possibility for you to stay on longer for whitewater rafting, kayaking, exploring, or even to visit the famous mountain gorillas! Alternatively, you might like to get involved in our Seva community development project with TDA. More about the possibility of staying on longer to volunteer below.

Optional volunteering extra:

After the nine-day retreat, we will stay for at another two weeks in Kampala to offer yoga and wellness coaching, personal and business mentoring, and practical hands-on support to the local women. What we contribute is completely dependent on what the women in the community want and need to ensure maximum impact.

If you would like to contribute your skills and energy as a karma yogi, you can stay on in the village after the retreat and join us as a volunteer.

There will be no additional cost associated with volunteering - all we ask is that you cover your own accommodation and sustenance costs (more information available on request).
