Near Amboseli National Park, Muteleu is an authentic Masai Village that welcomes visitors to stay in their traditional houses, taste their local food and experience their age-old culture.
There are 8 en-suite manyattas, with twin beds in each. The manyattas are formed of cow dung clay, with wooden shelves, woven rugs, and open-air bathroom. Food is simple and tasty, including rice, beans and vegetables.
The friendly team is keen to involve visitors in their lives and traditions and offers a wealth of activities. They tell visitors the story of the origin of their people, and stories of the moran warriors. They offer training in survival techniques involving a walk along the river, where to find shelter if you’re in the bush at night, which berries are edible, and which trees are best to climb. They also offer an introduction to the medicinal uses of plants: how to cook and eat them, or treat them and apply them. At night, they light a bonfire and demonstrate their traditional singing and dancing, in which visitors can participate if they wish. Nearby Amboseli National Park offers game drives and is known for huge herds of elephants.
