About Hildana Lodge
Established in 2021, Hildana Lodge is in a 5,000-acre sanctuary at the foot of the Taita Hills. The lodge is in the heart of the elephant corridor that connects Tsavo East and West. On the edge of a large family-run sisal plantation, the lodge plays a significant role in the conservation of the wildlife and its environment.
The 8 en-suite cottages are made up of 1 honeymoon suite, 5 doubles and 2 family units. The cottages are designed in Mediterranean style with some Swahili touches, with 4-poster beds, cream sofas, tapestry cushions, ochre tiles, basket-ware, woven rugs and stout lamps. The swimming pool is shaded by a towering baobab, and overlooks the path of the elephants. Nearby is a waterhole at which elephants and other animals come to drink.
Mediterranean style meals are served in the central lounge or al fresco; the sustainable farm supplies the kitchen with fresh homegrown produce. Activities include walks and birding in Taita Hills forests, and farm tours to show growing sisal, operating a fish farm and running a hydroponic project from the factory’s wastewater. Game drives take place in the sanctuary, Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Nearby sites of interest include Shetani Lava Flow, Mzima Springs and the Galana River.
