Lemarti’s Camp, on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, is a striking vision
of arid wilderness. The local Samburu community own the land; the camp was built and is run by Samburu guide, Loyapan Lemarti, and his fashion designer wife, Anna Trzebinski. This chic camp opened in 2008 and has already won a Travel and Leisure Design Award.
There are 5 en-suite double tents. The tents are stylish and their bathrooms are open to the sky. They are set in a grove of palms and centenary fig trees. The Samburu chefs use fresh organic ingredients to create a fusion of Greek, Italian and French food.
Activities include game walks, mountain biking and camel trekking. Cultural visits to local Samburu villages are recommended; guests are welcome to take part in traditional ceremonies and activities. The river provides opportunities for both swimming and fishing. For a surcharge, guests can go fly camping in the Nomadic and Stargazing Camps, or visit the Mpala Wildlife Foundation, prior reservation necessary. A beauty therapist offers a range of health and beauty treatments. The boutique features Anna Trzebinski’s interior and lifestyle products, and her fashion label. Lemarti’s Camp is committed to making a sustainable difference to the people of Koija, and supports projects such as local education.
