About Cedar Retreat

Cedar Retreat is located in the northern Aberdare Range, at an altitude of 9,500 feet. In an ancient forest with streams, rock pools and waterfalls, this makes an ideal place for a retreat or an adventure.

The 6 en-suite log cabins, with glass fronts to maximise the views, are tucked into trees. Each cabin has a double or twin bed, wooden floors adorned with colourful woven rugs, a wood-burning stove, and a veranda with views of the forest. The central house has a living and dining space, comfortable sofas, wooden roof and floor, and a long veranda with views of the trees. There’s also a tree deck overlooking the water hole and saltlick, from which people can watch the wildlife and birdlife that comes to drink.

The crisp mountain air and tranquil surroundings suit the yoga and nature retreats that are held here regularly. Activities include longer and shorter walks in the mountains, including climbing Dragons’ Teeth, Pyramid Rock Formations and the highest peak in the range: Le Satima. Game drives and guided nature walks are available. Stay on the deck for bird watching and game watching, or head out for more energetic activities like rock climbing, bike riding and horse riding.
