About The Baobabs of Kitangani

The idyllic island of Kiwayu is the only place visitors can stay in the Kiunga Marine National Reserve. Stretching along the northernmost part of Kenya’s coastline, Kiunga Marine National Reserve has sparkling seas filled with extraordinary sea creatures whose vivid colours gleam in crystal clear waters.

The Baobabs of Kitangani, under giant baobabs, overlooks Mkokoni, a small fishing village fringed with mangrove forests. The camp has three en-suite bandas, adorned with Swahili furniture including double beds, and verandas with hammocks. There’s also a beach bar and two beach bandas for dining and relaxation. The camp sleeps between 6 and 10 pax, and is usually taken by one group at a time; it can be catered or self-catering. The staff includes assistant manager, waiter, barman, chef, room stewards, guards, boatman and KWS rangers.

While relaxing against a colourful cushion and gazing across the white sand beaches at the sea is the activity of choice here, there are lots of more active options. Scuba diving is best between October and March. Also available are kite surfing, snorkelling and day trips to uninhabited islands by dhow or speed boat. Sports fishing, fly fishing, creek fishing and deep sea fishing are all on offer.
