About The Majlis

An exquisite resort on Manda Island, The Majlis reflects Lamu’s traditional heritage with a fusion of Swahili, Arabic and Indian architecture. The resort extends along the seafront, and offers a wide selection of facilities and activities.

There are 25 en-suite rooms, made up of superior, deluxe and family rooms, as well as 1 junior suite and 1 royal suite. All rooms are spacious and stylish, with baraza seating areas, elegant furnishings and stunning views of the gardens, swimming pools and sea. The Junior Suite has 2 double rooms and a large terrace overlooking the garden. The vast Royal Suite has 3 double rooms, living room, dressing room and balcony.

The Majlis Restaurant, created from local materials such as casuarinas, mangrove poles and thatch, is an open plan veranda with a panoramic view of the bay. It includes a sushi bar, a pizza oven, a seafood grill and an a la carte menu with a selection of international dishes. The bar, above the restaurant, overlooks the sea. The fully equipped conference centre seats 30 pax. There is also an outside Jungle Gym, an indoor state of the art gym, a boutique and a spa with ayurvedic treatments. Activities include speedboat excursions, dhow cruises and a full range of water sports.

The Majlis was designated an outstanding hotel in the 2011 Fodor’s 100 Hotels.
