The lovely Forodhani House rises from the seafront of Shela Village, giving it stunning views in all directions. Built in Swahili style, the house combines traditional architecture with modern facilities. With a courtyard garden, swimming pool, plenty of relaxation space and a team of friendly staff, this makes a special place to spend a holiday with friends or family.
The five spacious en-suite double rooms are elegantly furnished with 4-poster beds and other handcrafted Lamu furniture. The many lounges are adorned with old chests, woven carpets and unique antiques, and furnished with daybeds and Lamu chairs. The whitewashed walls are decorated with traditional niches, carved friezes, and solid Lamu doors. And the Arabic arches on every level of the house frame views of the sea and the dhows that cruise these waters.
Most activities around here take place on the sea: dhow cruises, fishing, windsurfing, kite surfing and water skiing are all available. Walking on the long beach and over the sand dunes, and swimming the channel, are also popular. Guided walking tours of nearby Lamu Old Town, the only continuously inhabited port on the East African coast, are not to be missed. Other nearby sites of interest include Takwa Ruins on Manda Island, and the ancient mosques and forts of Pate Island.
