About Manyika House

This lovely farmhouse stands in a sprawling coffee plantation. Built in the 1930s, it was the home of the legendary Beryl Markham, known for her daring flights in the early days of aviation, and for her gift in training even the most capricious horses.

The house, looking over mature gardens into the coffee fields, has 4 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 10 pax, and 2 bathrooms. All rooms are decorated in the style of early safaris with wooden floors, rugs and art depicting scenes of Africa. The living room has high ceilings, open beams and a fireplace, and is decorated with antique furnishings, comfortable sofas and bookcases filled with books. The chef serves meals in the dining room or the garden.

The garden cottage can sleep 4 pax in a double bed and bunk beds, and has an en-suite bathroom, outdoor kitchen and lounge area beneath the trees. There’s a children’s play area. Rabbits, dogs, turtles, monkeys, chickens and birds share the grounds. Activities include guided walks through the coffee plantation to learn about the trees and plants. Mountain bikes are available. Coffee tours of the nearby coffee factory and trips to Thika Greens golf course can be arranged.
