About Takaungu House

Takaungu House, set in lovely beachfront gardens, has 3 elegant whitewashed houses available for holiday rent. The self-catering houses are stylishly furnished; the compound, on a headland with sea views on all sides, is bright with bougainvillea and flame trees.

The main house has a master bedroom, 2 double bedrooms and a small twin bedroom. It also has a fully equipped kitchen, sitting room, dining room, veranda, and swimming pool. Antique wooden furniture, cream linens and traditional ornaments adorn the house, and there’s a veranda with outdoor dining. The cottage has 1 large bedroom, bathroom and veranda facing the swimming pool which it shares with the main house. The private house, an L-shape around its swimming pool, has 2 double and 2 twin rooms, a well-stocked kitchen, whitewashed walls and wooden furniture. The houses are furnished with heirlooms such as an antique writing desks, traditional wooden shutters, carved doors and books in heavy wooden bookcases. The garden has hanging seats and hammocks. The houses are staffed, including chefs.

The cottages are located not far from Zinj, fairtrade bead and leather design workshop, and near the ferry that crosses the creek from Takaungu to Kalifi. Takaungu has a fish shop and a dispensary.
