About Matira Bush Camp

Matira Bush Camp is located in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, near the junction of the Mara and Talek Rivers. This friendly camp, in a copse on an attractive stream dotted with waterlilies, is an authentic bush camp. A blend of Maasai hospitality and international management, the camp was founded by Monika Braun, Swiss conservation enthusiast, and Antony Tira, renowned wildlife photography guide from the Maasai community.

The 13 en-suite tents can be singles, doubles or triples. The tents are adorned with colourful rugs, attractive lamps and Maasai blankets, and linked by stone paths through the trees. The lounge tent is decorated with wildlife photographs, and has a well-stocked bar. Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining tent or beside the stream.

Game drives take place in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, with picnics on request. Game walks, cultural visits to Maasai villages, sundowners, bush breakfasts and bush dinners can all be arranged. A handpicked team of Maasai guides can be booked to guide photographers and film-makers. No trees were cut and no cement used during the camp’s construction; it disposes of waste responsibly, runs on solar power with a back-up generator, and operates two water clarification plants.
