Named after Karen Blixen of Out of Africa fame, Karen Blixen Camp recreates the aura of the 1920s. The camp was voted runner up for Best New Safari Property in Africa by The Good Safari Guide 2008.
The 22 luxury en-suite tents are raised on mahogany platforms, and adorned with fresh safari colours and natural fabrics. Their spacious verandas are furnished with cushioned daybeds.
The chefs use some of Karen Blixen’s favourite recipes; the food served reflects her love of the cuisines of France, England, Italy and Denmark. Camp facilities include a bar, a lounge, a gift shop with WiFi and a swimming pool. A resident masseuse offers a wide range of wellness treatments. Set on the banks of the Mara River, against the backdrop of the Oloololo Escarpment, the camp provides game drives in both Mara North Conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Also available are game walks on Oloisuk private concession and visits to Maasai villages, markets and schools. A member of UN Global Compact, the camp’s policies reflect its belief that responsible tourism can protect a natural wildlife area, alleviate poverty through proper conditions and contribute positively to local communities. The camp plants 10,000 indigenous trees every year.
